The book came to me in pristine condition, which was fabulous...the only downside is that I didn't receive it until much later than expected (as sellers, you're required to ship within 48 hours, and the printed label shows that my book, in this case, wasn't sent until five days after I ordered it). Again, I was really happy with the condition of my book...but if you're expecting for the seller to send it on time...don't. Left-leaning and badly written. This text is required for my Public Health Nursing course. The chapters are badly written with many typos and the sentences are often poorly constructed. In addition to the poor editing, many of the photos are ghastly. They are outdated, out of focus &/or grainy. The text is extremely left-biased. In the chapter on politics and the law (8), the author promotes the propaganda movie "Sicko" and a book trashing former President Bush ("What we've lost: How the Bush administration has curtailed our freedoms, mortgaged our economy, ravaged our environment, and damaged our standing in the world."), and put in a quote from Sean Donlon (no clue who he is) under the heading: Cultural Connection, "Democrats give away their old clothes; Republicans wear theirs. Republicans employ exterminators; Democrats step on the bugs. Democrats eat the fish they catch; Republicans stuff 'em and hang them on the wall." I find this text offensive and an insult to my intelligence. Hopefully it will never be required for this course after this semester. It is horrible - a waste of time and money. My first experience with Amazon.com This was my first experience with Amazon .com and I was not sure initially about using the site. I received my order in a very timely manner, and found it to be in very good condition. The price was significantly lower than at the school bookstore. I was very pleased with my experience with Amazon.com and will definitely use the service again for future needs Last semester Nursing student This is not the easiest Community Nursing text to get through. Some of the chapters are excessively long and repetitive. Granted there are a couple chapters that are somewhat interesting and to-the-point, but there are few and far between. The writing is fairly small and I often have trouble concentrating on the material. The book has fairly outdated statistics. The Disaster Nursing chapter talks about the worst US and Global disasters, and there's obviously no mention of the Tsunami and Katrina. The book is simply outdated and extremely boring. Good luck if this is your required read. Pretty good basis Coming from a Nursing student this book was very informative in a lot of Community Health Nursing aspects. Although the tone could be a little more exciting it was a lot better book than some of the Community Health Nursing books I have seen from the past. It uses a variety of pictures and figures to help understand some of the more dull information but it does a fairly good job of it.
